Access My Super

Accessing Superannuation to Pay for Dental Treatments

We want all patients at our Mornington Peninsula dental practice to have the best in oral and dental health.

We know some dental treatments may be expensive for some patients, so we have partnered with Access My Super to create an extra payment option tailored just for you.

Can I Access My Superannuation to Pay for my Dental Procedures?

In Australia, you can access your super to cover significant essential dental expenses, so long as you provide evidence to the Australian Tax Office (ATO). The ATO may agree to early release of your super based on severe financial hardship or on compassionate grounds.

The ATO wants to see that you are experiencing acute or chronic dental pain and that you will use the funds to pay for dental work to remediate this pain.

What is acute dental pain?

To address acute dental pain, urgent dental treatment must occur because of the rapid onset or progress of an existing dental condition.

What is chronic dental pain?

When your dental condition has been occurring for at least three months, and is likely to have an indefinite timeframe or less rapid change.

Together with evidence of your acute or chronic dental condition, the following list details the eligibility criteria for the early release of your super for dental treatment:

  • You must have no other means to pay for the treatment.
  • The treatment is not considered cosmetic or elective.
  • The treatment is not available through the public health system.

What Procedures Can I Access My Super for?

We see most patients accessing their super to cover the expenses for All On 4 Plus dental implants and traditional implants. Other procedures which may be suitable include some orthodontic treatments and root canal treatments.

As part of your application to access funds from your superannuation account, we will provide a detailed Treatment Plan.
