What are the benefits of orthodontics?
- Improved appearance and a great-looking smile
- Straight teeth are easier to clean and reduce the risk of decay and gum disease
- Improved bite
- Prevent stress on jaw points and abnormal tooth wear
- Reduces the risk of accidental injury caused by protruding teeth
- Preparation of teeth for future restorative care
Our orthodontic treatments
Early treatment is often beneficial. It sets children off on the right path correcting misaligned jaws and preventing irregular teeth wear. A beautiful smile together with straight teeth that function well can have a tremendous effect on children’s self-esteem, self-confidence and long term dental health. It is an excellent investment for life.
We offer both traditional metal braces as well as Invisalign at our Mornington practice.
It’s never too late to have a smile that you have always wanted. When your teeth and bite aren’t perfectly straight, health, function and aesthetics can be compromised.
The demand for adult orthodontics has increased a lot in recent years due to several reasons:
- Understanding of how orthodontics can help restorative dentistry.
- Understanding how a correctly aligned smile assists the long term health of your teeth.
- Introduction of clear braces as an alternative.
- Greater awareness of the importance of an aesthetic smile.
For many adults who have had braces before, they find they develop minor irregularities due to lack of retainer wear. In these cases, we can often use a short course of treatment to return your teeth to perfect alignment.
As long as you have healthy gums, there is no age limit to orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign Clear Braces
Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of near-invisible, removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your teeth. Each aligner is replaced every two weeks, causing your teeth to move a little bit at a time week by week.
Metal Braces / Traditional Braces
These are what we most commonly visualise when we think of braces. Constructed of high-grade stainless steel, and fitted to the front of the teeth, they have several advantages:
- They can fine-tune the position of the teeth reliably.
- Modern, sophisticated designs mean that they are smaller.
- They are relatively fast-acting to reduce treatment time.
- They are often cheaper across the whole course of the treatment.
Gone are the days of the traditional metal train tracks of the past. Worn on the front of the teeth like traditional metal brackets, they are manufactured from white or clear ceramic material. However, they are less visible since they blend with the teeth. You now even have the option of wearing white ceramic braces with white wires.
